Sponsorship and support
Natural Neighbors, including Ten Points of Inspiration, is an initiative of InterEnvironment Institute, founded in 1969 and based in Claremont, California. The Institute is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and has tax-deductible status under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Major support for Natural Neighbors has been provided by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) of the California Natural Resources Agency, and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA).
InterEnvironment Institute has been a member of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, since 1980. Natural Neighbors originated in projects cosponsored by IUCN's World Commission on Protected Areas. These projects included work on urban conservation strategies that resulted in the IUCN publication Urban Protected Areas for which major funding was provided by IUCN and the Republic of Korea National Park Service as well as SMMC and MRCA. In addition, significant in-kind contributions were made by InterEnvironment Institute, the Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Bioversidade (Brazil), and South African National Parks.
